Articles with important insight:

On Saturday, 18 March 2023 at 10 am (GMT) GMC opened PLAB 1 places to book for the following dates across all locations. Exam dates were 15 February 2024 and 23 May 2024. Candidates were able to book for 2 November 2023 in locations where they have the capacity to do so as well.

GMC stated they will release more seats for PLAB/ UKMLA/AKT exam later in 2023 for those not eligible to book during the current release. These releases may also include places in February 2024 and May 2024.

They stated that during 2024, international medical graduates who would have sat our Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) test will start to take the Medical Licensing Assessment (MLA) and in early 2024, they plan to replace the PLAB blueprint with the MLA content map. If you had booked a PLAB 1 place in 2024, this might mean your test is based on the MLA content map. If this applies to your test, they will contact you at least three months before your test date to let you know.

Both components will assess a range of knowledge and competencies mentioned in the MLA syllabus, also known as the MLA content map, which is similar to the PLAB 1 exam.

What is the format of AKT (Applied Knowledge Test)?

GMC states, “The AKT will be similar to the current PLAB 1 exam” it will be composed of single-best-answer (SBA) questions. This exam will be the same for all UK students and international medical graduates. The test will run four times a year for international candidates at several locations worldwide. For UK students, AKT will replace the medical school final exam. Thousands of past PLAB 1 candidates have used our resource as their primary study material and aced their exams.
