UKMLA vs PLAB vs MSCAA exam questions

What Doctors who Passed PLAB 1 exam say about us?

We know many of you out there intend to practice medicine in the United Kingdom and want to know the differences between these exams. In this article, we will address that and give you tips on how to prepare for the exam if you are in medical school in the UK or if you are an international medical graduate (IMG) who intends to practice medicine in the UK.

International medical graduate (IMG)

  • The PLAB exam, also known as the Professional Linguistic Assessment Board test, is the exam that international medical graduates sit for in order to practice medicine in the UK. This exam will be replaced in early 2024 by the UKMLA.

  • However, if you intend to sit for the PLAB exam prior to this, you can CLICK HERE to learn how to prepare and pass the PLAB 1 exam.

UK medical graduates

  • The same is true for UK medical graduates via the final exam, which consists of MSCAA exam questions and will be replaced by UKMLA.

The GMC (this is the exam body that is responsible for the PLAB 1 exam and the UKMLA) states that the UKMLA exam will be divided into two parts, one is called the AKT (Applied Knowledge Test), and the other is called CPSA (Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment).

GMC also goes on to state that the AKT questions will be similar to the current PLAB 1 exam and of single-best-answer (SBA) questions, and this will be based on the MLA content map, also known as the MLA syllabus, which is similar to the PLAB 1 exam.
